Saving bank of Ukraine (ukr. - Oshchadbank) is registered as independent banking establishment in National bank of Ukraine on December, 31st, 1991. "Oshchadbank" is a state ownership. Its activity is supervised by the temporary supervisory board appointed by the Cabinet of Ukraine. The saving bank of Ukraine, unique among all Ukrainian banks, has the state guarantee of preservation of contributions of citizens fixed by the law.

The Oshchadbank is one of leading banks of Ukraine, which possesses the most expanded network. Its structure includes 11 657 establishments, including 25 regional departments, 598 branches, 10 880 affiliated branches, 154 agencies. Savings Bank network accounts over 90 percent from total number of banking establishments of the state, the quantity of workers in which makes nearly 50 percent of all bank workers of Ukraine.

On the character of its activity Oshchadbank, first of all, traditionally is engaged in the retail operations connected with organisation of savings of the population. Attraction of money resources and savings both physical and juridical persons and their placing on commercial principles in interests of Bank investors are priority for Oshchadbank.

The bank carries out the basic volume of municipal payments and other transfers of citizens. Through the Bank establishments over 1 million workers economic, trade-union and public organisations, budgetary establishments, businessmen, tenants and farmers receive wages, more than 1,2 million pensioners, which makes 90% of those who use banks, receive pensions.

Bank establishments serve 85,6 million accounts of clients, carry out operations in national and foreign currencies, serve payment cards of the international systems, support direct correspondent relations with 36 foreign banks.

Oshchadbank is the greatest operator in the market of the state securities emitted by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.

During executing of the government program on privatisation by Bank establishments opened over 8 million depositary privatisation accounts, also it is given out about 38 million privatisation property certificates.

The work in directions of efficiency increasing of functioning and competitiveness of the bank has found display in the number of new undertakings, the major among which were:

• reorganisation of the bank structure;

• working out of the corresponding interbank standard documentation;

• realisation of actions for re-structuring of credit portfolio;

• creations of problem credits management: creation of the exchequer of the bank.

Oshchadbank is involved in performance of certain requirements of the general project of the Government of Ukraine with World Bank concerning reorganisation of the financial sector of Ukraine`s economy.
