Financial Times: Doctor confirms Tymoshenko is ill in jail

RIA Novosti: Ukraine rejects utility hikes in IMF loan talks Kyiv is against raising household utility charges and housing maintenance fees as a condition set by the International Monetary Fund to provide a new loan tranche, Vice Premier and Social Policy Minister Serhiy Tyhypko said on Wednesday. “Neither the government nor the president is ready to raise tariffs, and this is the main problem in the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund,” Tyhypko said, adding that the Ukrainian government was working out alternative proposals to resume cooperation with the IMF without raising utility charges and housing maintenance fees.

Council of Europe: Anti-Racism Commission publishes new report on Ukraine Editor's Note: The following is a new report on Ukraine released by European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) on Feb. 21

The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) today published a new report on Ukraine. ECRI’s Chair ad interim, FrançoisSant’Angelo, said that, while there have been some improvements, there are still concerns in most areas covered by the Commission’s mandate. Thus, although the Government has drawn up plans of action against xenophobia and racial and ethnic discrimination, the disbanding of the State Committee for Nationalities and Religion has left a vacuum in this connection. The country has no comprehensive anti-discrimination legislation. Moreover, despite the authorities’ intention to strengthen the legislation on asylum, the refugee-status determination procedures have been frozen on several occasions.

Speaking in London, Eugenia Tymoshenko said the tournament in June will be targeted by those angry at what they see as anti-democratic moves by President Viktor Yanukovych.

Russia Today: Ukraine lines up for Gazprom’s discount Editor's Note: The following story was published online by Russia Today, a Kremlin-funded information organization that has been criticized for its anti-Western and anti-Ukrainian propaganda.

Russia’s major gas producer Gazprom has revised tariffs with several large European customers. The move brings hope to Ukraine which is looking for a discount price for gas. The Russian Ministry of Energy sent a letter to is Ukrainian counterpart offering to resume negotiations on gas tariffs, according to the Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov. Gazprom would probably give a 10% discount to Ukraine reducing the cost of gas from $415 to $390 per 1,000 cubic meters, Kommersant daily reports.
