Volia responds to Eurosport opinion

Dear Editor,

The Volia Group of companies has always had great respect in the professionalism of Kyiv Post editors and the independence shown by the newspaper.
But we are concerned that our company has been treated unfairly by the Kyiv Post.

True judges follow democratic, not Stalinist, principles Dear Editor,

I have been following the cases of ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and ex-Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko. I note a recent revelation that the Tymoshenko judge,Rodion Kireyev, was VERY unqualified.

Ukraine-EU relations will remain frozen until Yanukovych returns to democratic path Dear Editor,

Kostiantyn Yelisieiev, Ukraine’s ambassador to the European Union, wrote (‘There is no reason for alarm in Ukraine-European Union relations,’ in the March 9 edition of the Kyiv Post) that “the establishment of the Constitutional Assembly, which with the participation of leading Ukrainian and international legal experts, NGOs and different political forces is engaged in proposing new and balanced constitutional amendments.”

Kyiv museums outdated Dear Editor, In recent weeks I have made visits to two museums near the Lavra, both with potentially powerful messages for the foreign visitor. The first was the museum under theHolodomor Memorial. Both the stark sculptures outside and the display of blackened farming artifacts within tell their tragic story, but most of the wall displays and photographs would be wasted on any visitor ignorant of Ukrainian.

Thefts from luggage at Boryspil Airport a real problem Dear Editor,

Olga Rudenko's Feb. 24 article "Can Boryspil cut luggage thefts?" touched me deeply. In May 2007, I took a flight by Aerosvit company from Kyiv to Hamburg [Germany]. I don’t know why I ended up putting sapphire earrings and pink ruby ring in my luggage, in the upper part of the bag.

Euro 2012: Maydan of hate? If the Euro 2012 started tomorrow, tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world would arrive in Kyiv. Most of them will come to the heart of modern-day Ukraine: Maidan Nezalezhnosti or Independence Square.

When visitors come to this place many they will remember the courageous protests during the 2004 Orange Revolution and for some, even the student protests and hunger strikes during the downfall of the Soviet Union in 1990. Many others, perhaps not as well-versed in history, will come to the square simply because it is one of the nicest places in Kyiv to sit, rest, people-watch, grab a snack and buy souvenirs.

Black Iron describes company Dear Editor,

On behalf of Black Iron Inc. (“Black Iron” or the “Company”), our shareholders, and your interested readership, we would like to express our concern over how the company has been portrayed in your recent editorial pieces and provide you with an appropriate introduction and true facts. ( Dec. 2 story"American TV personalities arrive to polish image of Ukraine's politicians" and Dec. 2 story "King bootlicker.")

We believe we are in the process of building something of significance for our shareholders, and just as importantly, creating a major opportunity for Ukraine. To our knowledge this Project will be the largest foreign investment in Ukraine for a Greenfield (i.e. new) mine to date. Construction and daily operation of the mine will result in substantial job creation plus tens of millions in new tax revenues for the country.

Corruption flourished under Yushchenko Dear Editor,

Brian Mefford is factually wrong when he disputes the Kyiv Post’s charge (KyivPost editorial, Sept. 9, "Bad Choice) that corruption flourished under ex-President Viktor Yushchenko’s tenure. (Kyiv Post "Yushchenko deserves achievement award, Sept. 22)

Ukraine ahead of the West Dear Editor,

My name is Eva, I am Ukrainian and currently live in USA where I study biomathematics at local university. Approaching graduation, I face a tough decision – stay in US and pursue career here or come back to Ukraine. Kyiv Post story “Ukrainians debate identity as nation marks 20th year” helped make up my mind – I will back to Ukraine.
