Daily Mail: Foreign Office warns England fans to expect racist attacks in Poland and Ukraine The Foreign Office has once again warned black and Asian fans to be extra vigilant as they could be targeted by racist thugs at this summer's European Championships.

With just three weeks to go until the event kicks off in Poland and Ukraine, fears continue to grow that England fans will be targeted, especially those of an ethnic minority.

The Foreign Office website, advises: 'Travellers of Asian or Afro-Caribbean descent should take extra care.'

Sky News: Tymoshenko daughter seek US Congress The daughter of former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko's has told US politicians she is 'very afraid' for her mother's life in detention.

Speaking on May 17 via live video link from Kyiv to a House of Representatives hearing in Washington, Yevgenia Tymoshenko warned that Ukraine's rulers will do 'anything possible' to manipulate results of the country's upcoming October election.

Independent: It's official: expect to be racially abused at Euros The Foreign Office has reiterated its advice to any black or Asian supporters going to Ukraine for this summer's European Championship that they face the possibility of being racially abused. On May 16 Arsenal English stricker Theo Walcott's family said they would not be travelling to Ukraine, where England will play their three group games, because of worries over racism. The Independent has been contacted by England fans who have cancelled trips to the finals for fear of receiving abuse, although the Ukrainian authorities insist it will not be a problem for any supporters.

The Foreign Office website, last updated at the end of April, advises: "Travellers of Asian or Afro-Caribbean descent should take extra care."

Worldwide News Ukraine: Nation's higher education tops the ranking in eastern Europe Ukraine ranked higher than any other Eastern European country in the Nation Higher Education Systems rating developed by Universitas 21, the international research network of 24 universities and colleges. Ukraine occupied the 25th position out of 48 evaluated countries. Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, Russia and Slovakia placed at positions 26, 27, 28, 32, and 35, respectively

The head of the research, Professor Ross Williams, the University of Melbourne said: "Ukraine does so well because the UNESCO data shows it as having a very high ratio of government expenditure to GDP ratio, ranking equal 4th overall. This ratio jumps around a lot for Ukraine from year to year which we will investigate more in the update."

In this interview, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Nigeria, Mr. Valerii Vasyliev, explains some of the challenges facing trade between the two countries and efforts to address them. He spoke to Ezra Ijioma and Ruth Yamta.

"I would like to highlight the fact that Ukraine considers Nigeria as its key partner in Africa," Vasyliev says. "The economic, trade and cultural ties between our two countries have gradually developed for decades. Both countries continue to invest a lot of efforts into strengthening their relations."

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty: US senator McCain cites Ukraine's 'missed opportunity' In an interview with Igor Tsikhanenka of Voice of America's Russian Service, U.S. Senator John McCain (Republican, Arizona) discusses the status of democratic values in Ukraine since the Orange Revolution.

He talks about what it might take for Ukraine to reverse its backsliding on democratic reforms, including learning "the lessons of their failures." He says he's "guardedly optimistic that the democrats in Ukraine will find their footing again," and notes that the "imprisoning and mistreatment of [former Prime Minister Yulia] Tymoshenko has had a significant effect on Ukrainian public opinion."

RIA Novosti: Ukrainian court rejects ex-minister’s sentence appeal The Court of Appeals in Kyiv upheld on May 16 the conviction of jailed former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko.

In February, Ukraine’s Pechersky Court sentenced Lutsenko, an ally of jailed opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, to four years in prison for abuse of office. The former minister has denied any wrongdoing, saying his trial was politically motivated. The Ukrainian authorities have rejected the allegation.

Travel Daily News: Ukraine unveils the renewed terminal at Donetsk airport Country officials open the renewed terminal at Donetsk international airport in Ukraine just in time for Euro 2012. The renewed airport boasts a seven-storey terminal capable of servicing up to 3,100 passengers per hour (previously - 700), reads the statement by Ukraine's Infrastructure Ministry.

Donetsk airport recently introduced an artificial runway suitable for all types of airplanes, including the heavy Boeing 747 and Airbus A380. It boasts the tallest in the country 52 meter control tower. The International Civil Aviation Organization granted the airport the ICAO III A category, allowing it to accept landings at zero visibility conditions.
